I am Not an Octopus

How long does it take to unload and load the dishwasher? Apparently and hour and a half. That is because even though the kids aren't hungry and insist they don't want lunch yet, as soon as I step in the kitchen they are hungry.

So Luke wants chips and salsa, and even though I've said "ok" and am trying to get it, he cries over and over, "I want chips and salsa! I want chips and salsa. I want chips and salsa." So we did a nice lesson using the "caveman" form of talking.

"LUKE WANTS CHIPS AND SALSA," I say, acknowledging what he wants. "MOM SAYS YES! I GET CHIPS AND SALSA. LUKE SAYS CHIPS AND SALSA 1 TIME. NO MORE." It really does work. He didn't say it anymore after that. I try and unload the dishwasher.

Meanwhile, Cailey wants something (probably a cookie) but knows it might not be a good time to ask, so she keeps saying, "Mom?" And I say, "Yes Cailey?" and she says, "I love you." She does this a few times. I decide to go ahead and make lunch for everyone.

Mia is actually not hungry and is trying to use Word on the computer in her playroom. I've shown her how to use the spacebar, backspace, and enter as well as inserting a page break and clip art. But since it wasn't intended for a 6 year old to use, I have to keep going in to help her. I finally tell her I can't help her anymore because I'm trying to take care of the dishes, make lunch, deal with tired Lukey and I'm getting a little frustrated. Cailey says, "I know. We aren't octopusses!"

At this point Luke decides he's done. He has cheese dip all in his hair. So I wash it in the sink while he cries that I'm going to drop him.

I put lunches on the table. I get Luke in his chair. I go back to get drinks. Luke starts crying again. I realize he's crying because I didn't put his lunch on his tray and it is still sitting on the table. I ask Cailey to get it. She does. He's still crying. He wanted me to put it on his tray. I go back and take it off his tray, put it on the table for a moment, then put it back on his tray. Ok, now he's perfectly happy.

Thinking they will be content, I contine to work on the dishes. But alas, I forgot their drinks. Get the drinks. Give up on the dishes. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. I decide to eat too.

Finally fed, they are off and I finish the dishes, though I have to stop a few times because Luke has decided to go back and eat some more, getting Doritos cheese all over his fingers. I wipe them once with a wet paper towel. However, when he reaches for them again, this just makes the cheese stick more. I get smart and put the chips up and wash his hands in the sink.

Somehow I get all the dishes unloaded and loaded. And now I'm sitting down for a break. Because I really am not on octopus.

This is Not a Kids Book

The girls have been picking their children's bible to read each night before bed. We've been reading the old testament section of it. Last night Cailey said, "I don't think this is a kids' book. There's a lot of, you know, bad stuff in it."

The Cailey and Mia Show - Rock Star

One last one before I head off to bed. This is Cailey and Mia performing Rock Star by Hannah Montana. You have to check out Mia's guitar solo. Cailey also shows off one of her favorite T's. Why a blonde little girl on a shirt makes it cool is beyond me. They managed to escape Luke's attempts to hijack the stage in this one. At the end Cailey decides to try and perform live and stop lip synching and Mia tries to stop her. I'll get one of them really singing on here someday!

Make Some Noise!

Hey, it worked. Here is Mia's debut performance. Even if you get a little bored in the middle, stick it through to the end, because Cailey's reaction to Mia's performance is cute.

Broken

Lukey was hanging out with me in the bathroom and he noticed that the mock drawer below the sink wasn't opening. He told me it was broken and needed batteries. Furthermore he admitted to breaking it. I told him he didn't but he insisted that he broke it.

My digital camcorder was nearly broken by me last night. Not really, but I felt like I needed to tie in with the blog entry title. I could have thrown it last night though. Couldn't the files come ready to use avi, mov, or mpegs? No, they come in bup, ifo, and vob's. So I went round and round last night with it, with no luck. David played around with it and found a file we could actually watch. This morning with the benefit of sleep, I was able to do some editing and stuff. But who knew it would take an hour to upload a 4 minute video? And who knew you had to wait for YouTube to preview your post? At this point I don't even know if I uploaded it successfully. Geez. I have unfortunately gotten too used to things in this instant-gratification world.

With some luck though, I'll be posting some video clips on here soon!

Round 3

When I picked the girls up from school Mia was practically asleep in the hallway with that "I'm sick Mommy, take me home" look.

Luke had a high fever and fast, raspy breathing all through the night. Tylenol wasn't quite cutting it and I was out of Motrin. At the doctor's office it was 103. So we are alternating Tylenol and Motrin and keeping him hydrated by bribing him with popsicles. All he wants is milk though, not even chocolate, but white milk.

Spiderman has been running non-stop in my room for over the last 24 hours. Every 4 hours the Tylenol would wear off and Luke would wake up asking for milk and Spiderman. This might actually burn him out on it I'm thinking. He ate a bomb pop and a couple french fries for supper and said, "I don't want to watch Spiderman anymore. Hold me."

At the doctor's office he coughed and said, "I'm sick." He was still such a polite sweetie, saying thank you when I got his milk, bless you when I coughed.

Of course, you always have to look for the silver lining. Usually my kids are all busy playing, doing homework, doing different things. Tonight we were all curled up on the couch together watching American Idol. Mia was on my left holding my arm and Luke's hand. Luke was on my lap asleep. Cailey was on my right holding my arm and Luke's hand falling asleep. Definitely a nice, warm, fuzzy moment. Thanks to the nap I made her take and the Motrin, Mia was wide awake discussing the contestants with me. She liked the "blond girl" who played piano and wanted to vote for her. She actually remembered her number. I had a hard time explaining how Mommy is behind the times and doesn't text and so couldn't vote. Definitely some nice bonding.

Round 2

Oh, I should not have said anything about Luke and Mia not getting sick. Jinxed it, of course. Lukey is now sick. Poor baby. He's being sweet in that pathetic way. "Momma? Can I have some milk? It will make be feel better." "Hold me. I wanna go upstairs and watch Spiderman," which is his bedtime routine.

Mia is on a leprechaun kick thanks to kindergarten. Cailey and Mia were both putting on a Hanna Montana concert for me last night. I tried to put the mini disc into the computer so I could upload it to Youtube, but it didn't work. I'll have to read my manual.

I interviewed for a Literacy Coach position today, one of 8 in the district. I think I did well, though I don't have as much experience in leadership positions at school as some of the other people interviewing. And I looked good, thanks to David, my personal shopping assistant and super husband! If I don't get it, at least I won't be in some brick closet for an office feeling clausterphobic!

Happy Friday!

Cailey and I are finally getting over the virus we got last week. Cailey managed to get 6 days off school, including the weekend. She made it through the last two days this week, but barely, falling asleep in the van each day. She also lost some weight, and it isn't like she had much to lose, making her cold. She was happy to go back though. She was the Star of the Week, so that made her feel very special. Fortunately Mia and Luke managaged to stay healthy.
